Texas Top Legal Officer Takes Legal Action Against Acetaminophen Manufacturers Over Autism Spectrum Claims

Courtroom Case
The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump seeking election to US Senate, claimed the drug companies of hiding potential dangers of Tylenol

Texas Attorney General Paxton is suing the producers of acetaminophen, alleging the firms withheld alleged dangers that the drug posed to children's brain development.

The court filing comes a month after Donald Trump publicized an unproven link between taking Tylenol - alternatively called acetaminophen - while pregnant and autism spectrum disorder in young ones.

Paxton is filing suit against J&J, which previously sold the medication, the only pain reliever suggested for women during pregnancy, and the current manufacturer, which now manufacturers it.

In a official comment, he stated they "betrayed America by gaining financially from discomfort and promoting medication regardless of the potential hazards."

The manufacturer says there is lacking scientific proof connecting Tylenol to autism.

"These companies lied for decades, intentionally threatening numerous people to line their pockets," Paxton, from the Republican party, declared.

Kenvue commented that it was "seriously troubled by the perpetuation of misinformation on the safety of paracetamol and the potential impact that could have on the welfare of American women and children."

On its online platform, the company also stated it had "consistently assessed the relevant science and there is no credible data that indicates a verified association between using paracetamol and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations acting on behalf of medical professionals and healthcare providers share this view.

ACOG has declared paracetamol - the main ingredient in acetaminophen - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to address discomfort and elevated temperature, which can present serious health risks if ignored.

"In more than two decades of research on the consumption of acetaminophen in pregnancy, not a single reputable study has definitively established that the consumption of acetaminophen in any stage of gestation causes neurological conditions in young ones," the association commented.

The lawsuit mentions latest statements from the previous government in asserting the medication is potentially dangerous.

In recent weeks, Trump raised alarms from medical authorities when he told pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to take acetaminophen when unwell.

The FDA then issued a notice that medical professionals should contemplate reducing the use of acetaminophen, while also declaring that "a causal relationship" between the drug and autism in young ones has not been established.

The Health Department head Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the FDA, had promised in spring to undertake "extensive scientific investigation" that would establish the source of autism spectrum disorder in a short period.

But specialists cautioned that finding a sole reason of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the consequence of a complicated interplay of genetic and external influences - would prove challenging.

Autism spectrum disorder is a category of permanent neurological difference and impairment that impacts how individuals experience and engage with the surroundings, and is identified using doctors' observations.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - a Trump ally who is seeking federal office - asserts Kenvue and J&J "deliberately disregarded and attempted to silence the evidence" around acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder.

The case seeks to make the corporations "remove any promotional materials" that claims acetaminophen is reliable for expectant mothers.

This legal action parallels the concerns of a assembly of guardians of minors with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the makers of acetaminophen in recently.

Judicial authorities dismissed the case, stating investigations from the parents' expert witnesses was lacking definitive proof.
