American-Palestinian Adolescent Released Following 270 Days in Israel's Detention
Zaher Ibrahim
An American-Palestinian teenager who spent 270 days in Israel's custody absent formal charges was released.
Mohammed Ibrahim was fifteen years old during his detention last February within the occupied West Bank, while he was vacationing on holiday from Florida under suspicion of rock throwing toward Israeli settlers, claims he consistently denied.
United States authorities said it welcomed the teenager's freedom.
Currently aged sixteen, required hospitalization for treatment immediately after release, relatives told the media.
They said he is pale, underweight, and is suffering from conditions acquired while detained.
Through an official statement, the youth's uncle spoke of the family's "overwhelming sense of relief".
Zeyad Kadur stated the family experienced "surviving a terrible, unending nightmare" during the entire detention period.
"Currently, our priority is getting Mohammed prompt healthcare he needs after being subjected to Israel's abuse and cruel circumstances throughout his detention."
US officials said it would continue to provide consular support for the Ibrahim family.
{"American leadership has no higher priority to ensuring the safety of US citizens"," the department emphasized.
Several congressional representatives had signed a letter to US authorities and the White House, demanding more be done for his freedom.
The father, parent of four children operating an ice cream shop based in Tampa, had earlier stated his child admitted guilt regarding stone throwing because the soldiers beat him.
There were no visits or communicated with his son following the detention, receiving updates exclusively what had happened to him in detention through court documents.
Mohammed was held lacking indictment at Ofer detention facility throughout the occupied territory.
It is also home to grown detainees, including individuals found guilty of serious terrorism offences including killings.
There are around 350 Palestinian minors in security custody being held in Israeli jails, per correctional service statistics.
Many have never been charged along with monitoring agencies, including UN bodies, say some have suffered mistreatment and torture.
After the teenager's freedom, family representatives announced relatives would persist in advocating demanding accountability for their family member family member Sayfollah.
The 20-year-old dual US citizen per medical officials succumbed to assault by settlement residents during a confrontation in July.
During that period, military authorities reported officials were investigating accounts of a Palestinian had died.
Both young men collaborated within the family's frozen treats establishment from Tampa.
No indictments occurred with Sayfollah's killing.
"We demand United States leadership to protect our families," Mr Kadur said.
